Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are the newest additions to the Google Pixel lineup. The latest flagship phones from Google offer major upgrades from their predecessors in terms of camera and performance. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro pack a great set of hardware, but the software experience is not pleasing to several users. Some of the Pixel 7 units have been facing issues with lock screen notifications, Google Pay, and other areas. As if these were not enough, some users are not facing the display colors.

Google has definitely improved the software on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. But, software bugs are still troubling users. As reported by several Pixel 7 owners, the display colors have problems. Those affected say the display turns yellow and colors appear washed out. They say the washed-out colors can be easily observed after a side-by-side comparison to the older Pixel phones or other OLED phones.

Unfortunately, Google has not acknowledged the display color issues, as of writing this post. The problem seems to be surfacing from the software side, not due to any hardware fault. Further in this article, we have shared some workarounds that could possibly fix the yellow screen or washed-out color problem on your Pixel 7 or 7 Pro.

Solution 1: Change the Display Color

If you are unhappy with the display colors, changing the Display color settings might help. You can find this option by navigating to Settings > Display > Colors. Choose another Display color option (recommended one is Natural) and check if it can fix the problem.

Solution 2: Change the Wallpaper

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro come with Android 13 OS, which has a feature called “Material You“. It basically changes the color of all elements on your phone when you change the wallpaper. So, your current wallpaper could be the reason for the yellowish screen. You can try changing the wallpaper to see if it does the trick.

To change the current wallpaper, follow these steps:

  • Press and hold in an empty area on the screen until you see a pop-up menu.
  • Select Wallpaper and style and tap on Change wallpaper.
  • Select a wallpaper that does not have much of a yellow color area and click the checkmark icon to change the wallpaper.

Solution 3: Switch to Basic Colors

If you are still facing issues with the display colors, switching to basic colors might help. Here’s how it is done:

  • Press and hold in an empty area on the screen until you see a pop-up menu.
  • Select Wallpaper and style and click Basic colors.
  • Select a color from the available options (recommended to choose the blue color).

Once you’ve switched to basic color, check if you are still facing color issues on your Google Pixel.

Solution 4: Disable Night Light

You can fix the yellow color display on your Google Pixel 7 or 7 Pro by disabling the Night Light feature if it is turned on already. This feature reduces the blue light emitted from the screen by displaying a warm color. Follow these steps to turn off Night Light:

  • Open the Settings app on your phone.
  • Select Display.
  • Tap on Night Light and toggle the switch off to disable it.

Solution 5: Install the Latest Update

If the yellow display or washed-out colors problem is still troubling you, updating your phone might fix it. A software bug could be triggering the problem if the hardware is not to be blamed. Google may be working on fixing this issue, which arrives in the form of an OTA update. You should therefore update your phone to check if the problem is fixed.

To update your Google Pixel 7/Pro, go to Settings > System > Update. If an update is available, download and install it. Restart your phone and check if the problem is gone.

Solution 6: Reset Your Phone

Resetting the device is the best solution when trying to fix software issues. The reason why we have included this solution at the end is because of the reasons that this process involves data loss. Once you reset your device, you’ll lose access to installed apps, photos, videos, files, and other saved data. You should therefore take a complete backup of your phone before proceeding. Don’t know how to back up your phone? Here’s our detailed guide on the same.

Follow these steps to reset your phone:

  • Open the Settings app on your phone.
  • Tap on System.
  • Click Reset options.
  • Click Erase all data (factory reset).
  • Tap on Erase all data. The resetting process should begin.

Once the resetting process is finished, set up your phone and check if the problem is fixed.

Several workarounds could fix the yellow display or washed-out colors issue on your Google Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro. If none of the solutions has worked out for you, take your phone to the service center to get it fixed or for replacement.
