But it’s quite unfortunate that multiple players are reporting their friend request option is locked in Modern Warfare 2. Luckily, there are a couple of possible workarounds mentioned below that should come in handy to fix this issue.

1. Try Rebooting the Game

First of all, you should try restarting the COD Modern Warfare 2 game irrespective of your device to ensure there is no temporary glitch or cache data issue bothering you. Though a normal reboot of the game can fix minor bugs or glitches quite easily, some of the players might not get benefitted. However, you should try it once before getting into the other workarounds.

2. Check Activision Online Services

  • Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the menu.

  • Scroll down until you see Updates & downloads.
  • From the next page, select Keep my console up to date and Keep my games & games up to date to enable the checkbox.

4. Verify and Repair the Game Files

Sometimes issues with the corrupted or missing game files on the PC might occur several conflicts when it comes to launching the game or during the gameplay. Luckily, you can easily verify and repair the installed game files on the PC version with the help of the game launcher by following the steps below.

  • Launch the Battle.net client on your PC.

  • Now, click on the COD: Modern Warfare II that you’re trying to repair.

  • Click on the cogwheel icon (settings) next to the Play button.

  • Select Scan and Repair > Click on Begin Scan.

  • Wait for the repair to finish > Once done, close the launcher, and reboot the PC to apply changes.

5. Try Using the Call of Duty Companion App

You should also try using the Call of Duty Companion application on your mobile device and then try adding your friends from there. Some of the reports are claiming that this particular trick did come in handy. To do so:

  • Just download and install the ‘Call of Duty Companion’ app on your mobile device.
  • Log into the Activision account > Now, go to Settings.
  • Tap on Account and Network > Go to your Activision Account.
  • Then you can Add Friends that you want to. It should unlock the friend requests option for sure.
  • Once done, open up the Quick Menu > Scroll to Notifications > Accept the Friend Request.

6. Contact Activision Support

If none of the methods worked for you then make sure to contact Activision Support for additional help. You should also create a support ticket for the same to get a better resolution asap. The chances are high that developers will try investigating this issue and fixing the same. You might have to wait further to get it resolved.
