How to Fix Logitech G331/G431 Headset Mic Not working?

The solutions to fix the Logitech G331 and G431 microphone issues are the same. So you can try out all the solutions mentioned below for both the models.

Check the connections:

The headsets have a USB and 3.5mm headphone jack for connectivity with the PC. You must ensure that it is firmly connected to the input port on the CPU. You can try using all the different ports if a single port is not working for you.

If changing the ports did not solve your problem, try the next solution.

Allow Access to Microphone:

Windows can use it for other programs when the headset is connected to the computer. But for all that, it first needs access to the microphone. Let’s see how we can grant that.

  • Click on the search bar and look for Microphone privacy settings. Once it shows up in search results, click on it.
  • Click on the change button and then turn on the toggle for Microphone access for this device.
  • Turn on the toggle for the option Allow apps to access your microphone.
  • Scroll down and find the option for allowing microphone access on the desktop. Turn on the toggle for that as well.

Now close every window and try using your mic on the headset. If it still does not work well, try the next solution.

Check Sound settings:

There are microphone settings built into the Windows control panel. You must ensure that the mic settings are correctly set for full functionality.

  • Click on the search bar and look for Control Panel. Once it shows up in search results, click on it.
  • Click on the view by option at the top right corner, and a drop-down menu will appear. Select “Small Icons” here.
  • Click on the Recording tab in the new menu that shows up. Here, make sure that the Logitech headset Mic is enabled. If it is enabled, you will see a small green tick at the bottom of the microphone.
  • Now click on the microphone and click on Set Default.
  • Right-click on the mic again and then click on Properties.
  • Now click on the levels tab. Here, drag the microphone volume slider to the max limit.
  • Finally, click on Apply and then click on Ok.

Reset Windows:

Resetting Windows will set everything in Windows to its default setup. You won’t lose any data, but your setting change will be reverted to its default value. This could fix your problem with the microphone.

  • Press Windows Key + I and then select Update & Security from the list of options.
  • Then click on the Recovery tab in the left pane.
  • You will see the option Reset this PC on the right pane.
  • Click on Get Started and follow the on-screen instructions to reset your Windows completely.

Try the next solution if resetting Windows did not solve your problem with the microphone.

Uninstall problematic applications:

Many of us use third-party equalizer audio tools on our computers to enhance the audio experience. We default get different audio settings and profiles when installing audio drivers. But some users like to tweak their audio experience, and in search of that, they use specific third-party audio tools as per their needs. These third-party audio tools could be the cause behind your problem, though.

The Logitech headset might not be compatible with the third-party audio tool you are using on your computer. In that case, the microphone won’t work no matter what you try with the application installed on your computer. The only solution here is to uninstall that third-party audio tool from your computer entirely.

Try the next solution if uninstalling the third-party audio tool did not solve your problem with the microphone.

Reinstall audio drivers:

Windows automatically installs the drivers for most devices when connected to the system. When the USB end of the Logitech headset was connected for the first time, it did the same on your PC. But sometimes, that installation can have some inconsistencies. To fix that, you need to reinstall the audio drivers.

  • Press the Windows Key + X and choose Device Manager from the options.
  • In the Device Manager window, find Audio inputs and outputs.
  • Double-click on it once you find it, and the list of installed audio drivers will show up.
  • Here, you will find the Logitech headset as well. Once you see it, right-click on it and choose Uninstall device.
  • The Uninstall Device window will show up. Click on the Uninstall button, and the device will be removed from the computer.
  • Now, go back to the Device Manager window and right-click on Audio inputs and outputs.
  • Then select the Scan for hardware changes option. This will install the drivers for your headset again. Just do not disconnect the headset from your computer during the entire process.

Update audio drivers:

On some occasions, problems with mic and sound can be resolved simply by updating the audio drivers. Windows need up-to-date drivers to stay compatible with every possible device out there. So if you are on outdated drivers, update the audio drivers immediately. That might solve your problem with the microphone on your headset.

There are three ways to update a driver. You can do it automatically, manually, or using a third-party application.

To do it automatically, you can use Windows device manager.

  • Press and hold Windows Key + X and choose “Device Manager” from the list of options.
  • Expand Audio inputs and outputs in the device manager window and right-click on your audio device’s name.
  • Choose “Update Driver.”
  • Choose “Search automatically for updated driver software.”
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and install the driver update that shows up.

You need to visit the Logitech support website for the manual process and look for the driver setup file. It will be like any other software installation file. Once you find the setup file, install it on your computer as with any other application.

Besides these two methods, you also have a third option. You can install a third-party driver utility tool on your computer, which will automatically scan your computer for outdated or missing drivers. It will also install the latest drivers on your computer with a simple click. However, these utility software tools usually have a price tag. But the price is well worth it as you don’t need to worry about drivers on your computer again.

Run Audio Troubleshooter:

Windows has a troubleshooter utility tool that can scan the computer for any known issues and try to fix them for the user. If the troubleshooter can’t fix the issue, it will at least display information to the user about what is wrong with the Windows system. So for the microphone issue with the Logitech headset, you could use the audio troubleshooter.

  • Press Windows Key + I and then select Update & Security from the list of options.
  • Then click on the Troubleshooting tab in the left pane.
  • Click on Additional troubleshooters.
  • In the following menu, click on the “Speech” option. That will initiate the speech troubleshooter for you. Make sure to keep the headphones connected when you are doing this.
  • Let the troubleshooter run the scan and try the fixes for the problems that show up.

Update BIOS:

An older version of BIOS could also be incompatible with the headset’s microphone. So contact your manufacturer and seek technical help from them for updating your BIOS to the latest version. Updating BIOS takes a fair bit of knowledge and caution, and if you get it wrong somehow, that could result in a complete system failure. So contact the professionals and seek their help in updating the BIOS in your PC.

After the BIOS update is complete, if the problem with the microphone persists, move on to the next solution.

Contact support:

After trying all the solutions mentioned above, if you are still experiencing problems with the headset, the problem could be with the headset’s hardware. Use your headset on your friend’s computer and check whether it works there. Suppose it does not, then you have your answer. There is indeed a problem with the headset’s hardware; in that case, a replacement or repair is your only option.

If your headset is under warranty, you can visit your nearest Logitech service center, and they will help you. All of it will be free of cost. But if you are past your warranty, they will charge you for the fix.
