Fix: Internet Time Sync Error on Windows 10/11 | Synchronization Failed

There are many reasons behind the time sync issue in Windows 10/11, such as server issues, technical issues, other apps blocking the feature, or the unstable local internet connection. You can diagnose your system for any error or follow the below methods and get it fixed by yourself to resolve the issue.

Try to restart the system once and check if it is fixed automatically. Also, check your internet connection and restart the router to clear all minor technical bugs. Finally, check the internet speed, and if you get low data speed, contact the service provider.

Update the Internet Time 

  • Go to Control Panel and set the icon to Large Icons.
  • Then click on Date and Time from the list.
  • Go to the Internet Time tab and select Change Settings on the Date and Time window.
  • After that, check the Synchronization with an internet time server is enabled or not. If enabled, choose time.nist.gov from the drop-down menu and click on Update now.
  • Then click on OK to apply the changes and then check the issue is fixed or not.

Restart And set the Windows Time to Automatic 

 Sometimes the date and time sync is automatically stopped due to a technical bug, and the restarting method and setting the time sync will resolve the issue automatically.

  • Open Run from the Start Menu and type services.msc and press Enter to open the services setting Window.
  • On the service, Window navigates to the Window Time and check if the process is running or not, then right-click on it and select Restart the process from the pop-up menu.
  • If it is disabled, double-click on to open properties and select Start type to Automatic from the General tab.
  • After that, click on start to apply the changes.

Add Time Servers

  • Open Run from the Start Menu, type regedit, and then press Enter to open Registry Editor.
  • Now paste the below link on the address bar of the Registry Editor to go to the Date-Time servers.

  • Then right-click on the Default option and select New>String Value.
  • After that, rename the String value like another file name in the same tab like 1,2, etc.
  • Then right-click on the newly added string and select Modify.
  • Type tick.usno.navy.mi in the value data in edit sting window and then press OK to modify.

Run Time Syncronise Command

 Run the below command in the command prompt to sync the time. Here are the steps to run commands.

  • Open Run from the Start Menu and type cmd, then press Shift+Ctrl+Enter key to open the command prompt in Administrator mode.
  • Now type or paste the below command one by one and press enter to run the command.

w32tm /debug /disable

w32tm /unregister

w32tm /register

net start w32time

  • Wait till you notice with the message “The Windows Time Service is starting.” or “The windows time service was started successfully.”
  • Now close the Command prompt and restart the system and then try to sync the time again and check the error is still showing or not.

Run System Scan Feature

SFC stands for System file checker, and through this command, you will check and reinstall all the corrupted or missing system files.

  • Open Run from the Start Menu and type cmd, then press Shift+Ctrl+Enter key to open the command prompt in Administrator mode.
  • Now type or paste the below command to run the SFC command.

sfc /scannow

  • After that, wait until the system scans all necessary files and gets them fixed, and after completion of the task, restart the system to apply changes.

Update BIOS

BIOS stands for managing data flow between system and devices. If the BIOS is outdated, you may face issues in your system.

  • Open Run from the Start Menu, type “msinfo32” in the search box, and press Enter to know the system information.
  • Check the System model from the list on the right panel on the System Information window.
  • Then visit the motherboard manufacturer and download the latest version of BIOS.
  • Create Bootable USB to install the newest version of BIOS in your system.
  • After the update, restarts the system and check if the issue is resolved.
